The Isle of Man is known all over the world as a destination for motor sports enthusiasts. Each year there are at least four events which bring large numbers of fans to the island, and we are pleased to host visitors for every one. Here are some brief details and comments on our interface with them.
Manx Loaghtan Sheep
The iconic symbol of Manx agriculture, the Loaghtan sheep neared extinction in the 1980s with estimates of the surviving population dropping as low as 18. The species is still listed as endangered in Great Britain due to the low number of registered breeding ewes. On the Isle of Man, though, they are considered as a “rescued” flock, as there are some 3,500 animals alive and well. Their delicious meat is occasionally available direct from us, but more frequently served at two island restaurants, The Forge and The Abbey.
If you would like to purchase a half or whole sheep, cut into joints, for your freezer, please email manxbarn@gmail.com. We will let you know when is the next availability (not before 2024)
